How to stay disciplined and motivated while losing weight?

I am 18 and have been overweight ever since i can remember. The past few years I’ve really been trying to lose weight but just can’t stay motivated. While living at home I have no control over what my parents buy to eat. When they buy junk food I just can’t get myself to resist it 100%. My basic meals and everything are usually pretty good, its just the stuff I eat in between, even when I’m not hungry.

So my quesiton is to anyone who has gone through this. How did you stay motivated while losing weight. Is there a good way to stay disciplined and not eat a bunch of crap all the time even when its there. I know if I can do these things I can reach my goals. Any suggestions?

    i know what you feel like! i’m 15 and trying to lose what little bit of weight i gained over winter! just think about it, what will taste better: that piece of cake or soda, or being able to show off your body?

    shop at the health food store and plan healthy snacks you like, also eat small portions. you will be surprised what new healthy foods you really enjoy. also, pack your lunches, eating out is a bad food trap!

    It will track your calories eaten and burned. It has thousands of foods with nutritional content… you will be surprised how quickly snacks can add up! And some foods you might not think are “that bad” you will just about die when you see what is in them!
    Drink LOTS of water. A lot of the snacking happens because your body is slightly dehydrated, but the feeling comes on as a slight hunger instead of thirst. Drink water before all meals and always have a bottle of water next to you.
    GIVE UP SODA!! If you drink regular sugary soda, it is adding literally hundreds of empty calories per day. I went from 20 oz. Mountain Dew per day to 12 oz. Diet Coke per day and I dropped about 6 pounds in a few weeks without even trying.
    Finally, tell your parents that if they love you and care about your health, they will stop buying junk food. Or at least hide it, keep it in their cars, etc. You don’t eat what’s not in front of you.

    You simply have to want it badly enough. There is no trick. Sometimes it takes reaching a day when you look at yourself and are so unhappy with what you see that it sticks with you and helps to drive you to be strong. You can’t control what your parents buy to eat but YOU CAN control what you put in your mouth. Again you have to want it badly enough. If you’re not doing it and you’re eating crap then you don’t want it that bad. You’re ok with being fat and less attractive than skinny girls.

    If you do get up the will power I suggest going to this site to find out how many calories you should be eating a day to lose weight. If you decide to watch your calories then you’re going to have to eat meals that are high in protein and vitmins so you don’t wind up being hungry. The reason is that if you lower your calories and eat crappy food your body will not be getting what it needs. You should jojn a gym if you can. It’s hard at first but get mad and make yourself do it. The longer you go the easier it gets. Do it for yourself.
